Bordering the west side of Tacoma is the lovely city of University Place. Located about 39 miles south of Seattle, this peaceful area is a highly coveted place to live. It features excellent schools, private neighborhoods, and a low-key atmosphere. University Place is part of Pierce County and is home to over 33,000 residents. The area is also a short boat ride from stunning Fox Island.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
The vast majority of shopping, dining, and entertainment can be found along Bridgeport Way West. However, in select locales, you can find other hidden gems that are a must-visit. Upon moving to the area, you’ll discover that University Place has everything needed to live life to the fullest.
Traveling down Bridgeport Way West (the most bustling part of the city), you can experience some of the best that University Place has to offer. Getting hungry? Taste the wide range of cuisine found at restaurants such as Gyro Zone, Fresh Rolls, Maria’s Cocina Mexicana, and Sapporo Steakhouse. There is also a delightful selection of favorite chain restaurants in this general area. Shopping for your everyday needs? Pick up the essentials at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, and Trudy’s Hallmark Shop.
Away from this main part of the city, there are several other places that you’ll want to check out. At the Chambers Bay Golf Course, you can dine at the top-rated Chambers Bay Grill. The restaurant features outdoor dining with unparalleled views of the greens. Near the water, try the menus at both Boathouse 19 and Beach Tavern.
Things to Do

On the western side of town, make plans to spend the day at Chambers Creek Regional Park. This massive park features golfing, a restaurant, the Chambers Bay Loop Trailhead, a soccer field, a playground, and stunning views of the water. Additionally, the Chambers Creek Canyon trail takes you all the way from the park to the Upper Chambers Creek Canyon trail (located off of Bridgeport Way West).
University Place is also home to several other gorgeous parks and golf courses. Take in the beautiful weather at Homestead Park (near the center of town), Paradise Pond Park, Curran Apple Orchard Park, Cirque Bridgeport Park, University Place Skatepark, and Fircrest Golf Club.
There are several highly-rated public schools throughout University Place. The local high school — Curtis Senior High — was even distinguished as the 2020 College Success award winner.
